PALM BEACH — Florida’s weather is beautiful now, but sounds like we’re going to be paying for it later.
Forecasters from Colorado State University’s Tropical Meteorology Project have released a preseason forecast which says 2018 is going to be a busy year for hurricanes.
Luckily, they don’t think it’ll be quite as bad as 2017, but the forecast predicts a busier than average season with 14 named storms, seven hurricanes — three of which will be Cat 3, or worse.
Last year, we had 17 named storms, 10 hurricanes — six of which were above Cat 3.
In case you’ve forgotten, hurricane season runs from June to November.
That means this 38-page preseason forecast is very preliminary and just one of many predictions that will be released by CSU, The National Hurricane Center and other meteorological agencies.
Let the hyperventilating begin.
