WELLINGTON — Twelve weeks of incredible horsemanship at the Winter Equestrian Festival came to a stunning end this weekend.

At the season’s final Saturday Night Lights, Wellington rider Margie Engle won the highly-anticipated $500,000 Rolex Grand Prix and was named the overall Leading Lady Rider of the whole festival.

Not a bad way for a local gal to celebrate her 60th birthday!

Engle is no amateur, she’s been named rider of the year ten times by the American Grand Prix Association and was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

Saturday was also a night for the kids. Survivors from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting were on hand to sing Shine, the original song they wrote and performed at the CNN Town Hall.

All winter, the Winter Equestrian Festival filled the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center with big names competing for more than $9 million in prize money and Equestrian Sport Productions CEO Mark Bellissimo is already looking forward to next year’s festival.
