MIAMI — It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 10 years since the MTV hit reality show Jersey Shore debuted in 2009, introducing the world to such television luminaries as Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. The show focused on a group of 20-something roommates and their various friends living—as might be expected—on the Jersey Shore.
After a break of a few years, the gang is set to return, and is presently in Miami filming Jersey Shore: Family Vacation.
Series stars Sorrentino, 35, and Jennifer “JWoww” Farley, 31, were seen out-and-about recently, with the latter emerging from an Italian deli with bags of takeout, presumably for the famous group to enjoy. (The Situation was waiting in the car.)
JWoww, 31, looked fit in a pair of hip-hugging purple leggings and a white tank top. Sorrentino, for his part, wore a gray T-shirt and black sunglasses, and morosely flashed a “peace” sign for photographers.
It’s no surprise that the Situation looked glum; on Friday, he pled guilty to tax evasion regarding his 2011 income before a Newark, New Jersey court.
Also wrapped up in the TV star’s legal woes is his brother Marc Sorrentino; the pair were both charged in 2014 and 2017 in connection with $9 million of income from the MTV show. Among the charges is a count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S., which could possibly carry as much as a 5-year prison sentence, as well as counts of filing false returns (a maximum 3-year sentence).
It probably didn’t help Sorrentino’s mood that he was additionally banned by the judge from drinking alcohol on the Miami vacation as a condition for being allowed to take part in the filming.
Snooki and JWoww found moderate success in a Jersey Shore spin-off centered on their adventures that ran for four seasons. Perhaps the Situation could follow suit and turn lemons into lemonade with a hard-hitting procedural about his own legal battles. From the sound of it, he would give producers a lot of fodder to work with.
