TALLAHASSEE — Beleaguered by reports of sexual harassment and facing a public corruption trial, embattled Florida State Senator Jack Latvala has answered Gov. Rick Scott‘s call for his resignation.
The 66-year-old Republican senator from Clearwater handed Senate President Joe Negron his letter of resignation today, ending a four decade career.
“I have never intentionally dishonored my family, my constituents or the Florida Senate,” he wrote.
He claimed that his enemies have latched on to the #MeToo movement “to rid our country of sexual harassment to try to rid the Florida Senate of me.”
His resignation followed close on the heels of the distribution of a report from a Senate independent investigator that found many women claimed the senator sexually harassed them, shamed them, or attempted to trade sexual favors with them in exchange for legislative influence.
