PALM BEACH — The psychotherapist son of big-deal Palm Beach insurance mogul Bruce Gendelman was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly attacking his father.
Jordan Gendelman, 36, was charged with domestic violence battery, a misdemeanor and booked in to the Palm Beach County jail about 4 p.m.
The suspect, who lives in Snowmass Village, Colorado, and is visiting his family for the holidays, faces an arraignment Jan. 8 before Palm Beach County Judge Debra Moses.
He was released on his own recognizance under a slew of conditions, including that he undergo a mental health evaluation and stay away from drugs, prescription and illegal, and alcohol. Gendelman, however, was returned to the county jail after his family wasn’t able to find space for him in an in-patient institution.
According to the charging papers, Palm Beach police were called to the Kawama Lane Road home of the 63-year-old Bruce to investigate a “domestic disturbance in progress.”
When police arrived, they were greeted by society stalwart Bruce, who reported he was hit by his son during an argument. Police noticed redness on the left side of Bruce’s face.
They then discussed the incident with Jordan, who admitted to becoming “frustrated” during an argument with his dad over Jordan’s wife, children and house in Colorado. Jordan told cops he struck his father “with an open palm.”
Neither Bruce nor Jordan returned calls for comment.
David Roth, his lawyer, called it a “sad situation.”
“This is a very sad situation involving a young man with severe mental illness,” Roth said. “We are getting him into a premier mental health hospital in Massachusetts.”
Members of Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago Club, Bruce Gendelman and his wife Lori are well-liked socialites who have co-chaired black-tie function alongside Trump and his wife Melania.
The Gendelmans’ other son, Joseph, is married to the daughter of CNN anchorman Wolf Blitzer‘s daughter Ilana.
