JUPITER ISLAND — It’s been a rocky year for Jupiter Island‘s golf sensation Tiger Woods. The sports star’s back problems seemed amplified in the early part of the year, culminating in a DUI arrest in May due to his self-medicating with opioid pain pills and other drugs in the wake of recent surgeries. With a video-recorded arrest widely viewed online and a subsequent “guilty” plea for reckless driving, it’s safe to say that 2017 probably wasn’t Tiger’s favorite year.
With one month still to go, though, that might all be changing.
Claiming to have “come out the other side” of his painful back problems, Woods seems poised to begin another of his legendary comebacks, and has traveled to the Bahamas to take part in the upcoming Hero World Challenge, a golf tournament hosted by Tiger himself for the benefit of the Tiger Woods Foundation.
“I’m loving life now,” the now-upbeat golfer brightly asserted.
Despite his present golf ranking of 1,199th, Woods is encouraged about his abilities after healing from what seems to have been a successful fusion surgery on his back in April.
“When I started hitting balls again I hit a nine-iron 90 yards, I was that apprehensive,” Tiger explained of his initially-tentative return. “When I started hitting it flat out and could fly a driver 320 yards, I thought, ‘How long will this fused back hold up?’ My doctor said, ‘You’ll be good for the rest of your life.’”
The No. 1 ranked golfer, Dustin Johnson, played recently with Woods and seemed to echo that optimism.
“Oh man, this is a completely different Tiger,” Johnson said.
Despite all of this positivity, Woods was reluctant to claim that he would perform like he did in his prime when asked.
“I don’t know,” the golfer replied with a laugh. “I was pretty good, wasn’t I? I know a lot of the young guys have only seen my highlights on YouTube. I would like them to feel what some of the past guys had to go against all those years.”
Tiger’s many fans will undoubtedly be rooting for him in the days and weeks to come. After all, who doesn’t love a good comeback story?
