HOMESTEAD — Real Housewives of Miami star Alexia Echevarria’s ex-husband, Pedro Rosello made first court appearance yesterday after his arrest on drug trafficking charges last week.
Rosello, a former member of the Willy Falcon and Sal Magluta drug cartel, was busted a week ago by the DEA for allegedly trying to sell two kilos of cocaine. He has been charged with “possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine.”
Officers were tipped off last Tuesday that Rosello, aka Louis Mendez, was looking to sell five kilos of coke. The informant stated that Rosello was willing to bring one kilo for him to check out and would supply four more if he liked it.
According to cops, on Wednesday, Rosello showed up at a Florida City home with an offer to sell five kilos for $140K. The informant agreed to meet him later with money.
What Rosello didn’t know was that the police were listening in on his scheme. At 5 p.m., he was pulled over by the cops, who with the help of a police dog, found the coke stashed under the backseat.
Back at the Homestead Police Department, Rosello confessed to the crime.
The drug dealer has a criminal history that stretches all the way back to 1992, when he was convicted for smuggling cocaine for Magluta’s organization. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison, but was released after four and a half years.
In 2007, he was arrested again for having sex with a minor he met at a club. He was given 12 years of probation, which he violated in 2012 following another arrest.
Back in 1992, drug kingpin Sal Magluta was arrested at his home on La Gorce Island home in Miami Beach. That same day, his partner Willy Falcon was captured at his mansion in Fort Lauderdale.
The DEA recovered one million dollars in cash and jewelry, as well as some coke and a kilo of gold. Nothing compared to the $2.1 billion in cash the pair, who pair ran the largest East Coast drug empire, made by smuggling over 75 tons of cocaine in to the U.S. from the Medellin and Cali cartels since 1978.
Rosello and Echevarria, have two children from their marriage, Peter and Frankie. The Cuban Barbie, as she is known, revealed on her RHOM blog in 2013 that “When Peter and I got married, I was young, I was naive … he had like a ‘bad boy’ lifestyle … I got pregnant. During that time, my ex-husband was involved in a very serious drug trafficking case, where several of the defendants were murdered. He was sentenced to 25 years for drug trafficking.
“It’s really difficult to have to talk about something that happened 23 years ago. Something that stirs so many mixed emotions — happiness, sadness, fear, shame, guilt. Something that no matter how much I tried to hide it, erase it, and forget about it still haunts me today. At the same time, it’s uncomfortable to have to speak about my ex-husband, the biological father of my children, after we have been legally divorced for over 17 years.”
