MIAMI — Matthew McConaughey was having a blast with co-stars Isla Fisher and Snoop Dogg while filming the comedy The Beach Bum in Miami.
The movie—from Harmony Korine of Kids and Spring Breakers fame—centers on the low-key adventures of an eccentric stoner rebel named “Moondog,” played by the 47-year-old McConaughey.
Despite the Texas-born actor’s star power, all eyes Thursday were focused on the fetching Fisher, 41, who was garbed in a glamorous purple gown boasting a “keyhole” which decidedly removed her ample assets from the realm of imagination.
The stars were filming an outdoor wedding scene, something for which McConaughey’s character—decked out in a stringy-haired wig and a bizarre, flame-adorned two-piece—seemed woefully underdressed.
Everyone appeared to be in good spirits during the shoot. The Australian-born Fisher laughed between takes and ducked the Florida sun under a red-and-white umbrella. Snoop—dressed all in black except for a green velvet suit coat—could be seen goofing around with McConaughey and keeping cool with a small bottle of water.
When the cameras rolled, the Doggfather, now 46, gave a speech at the in-film wedding, flanked by actors in Rastafarian-style garb.
John Lesher of Le Grisbi Productions gushed about the film: “In The Beach Bum, Harmony has crafted the perfect movie for our dark and serious time—a refreshingly original, irreverent and hilarious stoner comedy that only he could create.”
McConaughey and company are filming in Miami initially, after which point they leave for Key West to film there for an additional two weeks.
If McConaughey’s recent track record is any indication, the film is likely to be a big hit. The actor has experienced a sort of renaissance, turning up in key roles in projects as diverse as The Wolf of Wall Street, Interstellar and the first season of HBO’s True Detective, following a lengthy period of turning out mostly mediocre fare.
In the end, between hunky McConaughey and the dazzling Fisher, the film should have at least a little something to offer everyone.
