BOYNTON BEACH — The veteran Palm Beach County sheriff’s detective who shot a woman and then killed himself at a Boynton Beach condominium Thursday morning has been identified as Michael DeMarco.
The Boynton Beach Police department withheld the detective’s name for more than 24 hours and are not releasing the name of the woman he wounded.
Authorities said officers responded to the gated Inlet Harbor Club community just after 8 a.m. yesterday and found DeMarco dead and a woman injured and in critical condition.
The woman was taken to Delray Beach’s Trauma Center where she was listed in critical condition.
There’s been no further update on her condition.
A neighbor said DeMarco and the woman he shot had been dating for seven months, but the relationship had recently ended, plunging DeMarco into a depressed state.
DeMarco has been working for PBSO since 1995.
