Anti-Porn Florida Legislator Likes Porn On Twitter!

TALLAHASSEE — State Representative Ross Spano, a dyed-in-the-wool conservative who recently filed a bill to recognize pornography as a public health crisis, has expressed a conflicting view via his Twitter account.

Spano’s Twitter record is mostly pretty standard stuff, including “likes” of his interests and favorite sports teams, as well as the sorts of things one would expect to see from a Republican politician, such as Bible verses and posts critical of Islam.

Way back on January 8th, though, Spano’s account veered off the yellow brick road of public life and “favorited” a tweet from an account entitled “Goddess Lesbian” that features a 17-second video of two women engaging in sex acts.

Now, why would the anti-porn guy like that video? (via Twitter)

The Twitter “oops” comes shortly after a similar episode with a much more senior GOP figure, Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Cruz’s account favorited an explicit porn clip, which immediately stood out and caught media attention. The Senator blamed the action on a staffer.

Spano—perhaps embracing Cruz in a mentor role, as a sort of “porn Obi-Wan”—followed suit and released the following response:

“Obviously, I have a long social media history on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram since I was first elected in 2012. With a thorough examination of my accounts, it will be easy to see that this is not my doing. I have since gone back, once notified, and rectified the problem. And I’m now looking into how it occurred in the first place.”

He continued: “In addition, referencing my prior statement, I don’t believe any of this takes the focus off of the fact that there is a direct correlation between pornography and a host of societal problems, including human trafficking, exploitation of children, sex slavery, and domestic violence.”

It’s yet another hard stance on adult content for Spano, whose bill asserts that pornography creates oversexualized children with porn as their “main source of education regarding human sexuality” and goes on to claim that it leads to the development of “eating disorder[s] and a desire to engage in dangerous sexual behavior.” One can only imagine that Spano, having gone all-in on the Sisyphean endeavor of trying to litigate human biology, must be exhausted.

Maybe that’s why he left a pro-porn tweet up on his account for nearly 9 months.
