PALM BEACH GARDENS — It’s a time for love and a time for hate for Serena Williams, whose recent baby news is offset by her involvement in her father’s contentious divorce, the latest chapter of which sees the tennis star’s stepmother and half-brother getting evicted from their West Palm Beach home.
Serena’s baby girl was born on September 1st, but the eventful tone of recent days didn’t stop her from ordering Lakeisha Juanita Williams and her 5-year-old son Dylan Williams out of the house (which Serena owns jointly with her father).
Lakeisha, 38, and the tennis legend’s father, Richard Williams, 75, had been married for 7 years when Lakeisha filed for divorce in June.
Lakeisha opened with a claim that she had removed Richard’s “arsenal of firearms including an AK-47” from the house due to his acting “erratic and hostile.” She followed up with the further claim that she was afraid Richard might harm her and Dylan in a “scorched Earth” approach to the impending—and difficult—divorce proceedings.
Richard, for his part, alleged via divorce petition that his wife was an alcoholic and accused her of stealing his Social Security checks and forging his signature to steal cars and a house from him. He expressed concern that Lakeisha’s new beau—whom he left unnamed—has “serious criminal, felony charges pending who could impose a danger to the minor child.”
Each of the two claims to have been managing Dylan’s care on their own for the past year.
Serena is serious about ejecting the pair from the Florida residence, and has reportedly even threatened to change the locks.
Sandy Becher, Lakeisha’s attorney, said the assertions made by Richard in his petition were “outrageous.”
“We categorically deny each and all the allegations [Richard] has made in the petition,” Becher stated. “When the issues come before the court, they’ll be proven to be patently false.”
This is the 2nd divorce for Richard, who formally dissolved his union with ex-wife Oracene Price (mother of Serena and her tennis sensation sister Venus Williams) in 2002. That split was dogged with accusations of domestic abuse, and although Oracene had at one point 3 broken ribs, Richard was never charged.
It seems that even into as charmed a life as that of Serena Williams, a little drama must fall.
