MIAMI — Longtime NBC 6 anchorwoman Sharon Lawson is following her colleague Adam Kuperstein out the door.
The 14-year veteran is saying her goodbyes to friends today and packing for a big move to Atlanta.
The comely weekend anchor is getting a much higher profile assignment in a much higher profile city: She was tapped for the weekday morning anchor desk at Atlanta’s Fox 5.
In TV parlance, you call that a no-brainer.
“I’m not leaving for just any old job,” Lawson said a couple days after she signed off from WTVJ for the last time. “I love Miami. I wouldn’t have left for anything else. I just couldn’t pass up this opportunity to continue growing.
“Miami will always have a special place in my heart. I grew tremendously as a journalist and personally as well here.”
Indeed, Lawson met her spouse, music talent agent Chris Pappas, during her SoFla stint, and they were married last year.
Kuperstein, meanwhile, announced earlier this month he is headed to NBC’s flagship station, WNBC in New York City. He is schedule to start anchoring the weekend newscasts Sept. 5.
