COCONUT CREEK — A high-ranking elected official of the Cayman Islands arrested by police July 17 at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is off the hook.

The Broward County State Attorney’s office just decided it would not prosecute the 62-year-old McKeeva Bush, 62, the islands’ current Speaker of the House and former Premier.

He was accused of grabbing the buttocks of a female casino employee.

“This man was reviled for something he didn’t do,” said Keith Seltzer, Bush’s attorney. “He did not physically touch anyone with a criminal intent. The lady claimed he touched her back and buttocks, and the surveillance video did not show that.

“He was sitting at a slot machine and he simply put out his hand.”

Besides, says Seltzer, Bush’s wife was present at the time of the incident.

Seltzer partly blamed Bush’s misdemeanor battery arrest to the fact he speaks with a heavy island accent and couldn’t communicate properly with the alleged victim and tribal police.

Bush is a controversial political figure in the Cayman Islands whose latest arrest sparked calls for his resignation.

He was nabbed in the Cayman Islands in a corruption probe five years ago when he was accused of using a government credit card in Las Vegas and importing explosive materials.

He was removed from his prime minister office but was found not guilty of all charges in 2014.

Ron Ishoy, spokesman for the State Attorney, confirmed Bush is not going to be prosecuted but didn’t provide details.
