MIAMI — A couple on their honeymoon in South Florida were jailed in Miami-Dade County on kidnapping, carjacking, robbery and sexual battery charges after allegedly raping a woman they encountered outside a Publix supermarket.
Police reported that Rashada Hurley, 32, and Timothy Lowe, 37, spotted the 27-year-old woman as she was pulling out of a parking space at the supermarket. Police said that after hitting her over the head through the open window of her car and leaving her unconscious, the couple drove the victim in her own car to a Motel 6 and raped her.
When the woman regained consciousness, Hurley was choking her and Lowe was driving. When they arrived at the motel, they used the woman’s credit card and driver’s license to get a room, and then proceeded to force her to perform sex acts on both. She was able to escape when the newlyweds became distracted.
The following day, the couple were arrested after entering a 7-11 naked, pouring themselves drinks from the soda fountain and walking out without paying. They were arrested soon after a block from the store and charged with theft and indecent exposure.
Through video surveillance, the police identified the couple as the rapists and the victim was able to pick Lowe and Hurley out of a photo line-up. They were booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and are being held without bond.
Judge Victoria Sigler from Miami-Dade County described their actions as “one hell of a honeymoon.”
