GAINESVILLE — A city report released Wednesday from Gainesville revealed a shocking tale of waste, theft and abuse from one of the city’s employees.

Natwaina Clark, 33, used Gainesville-issued credit cards—both hers and her bosses’—to fleece the North Central Florida city out of a whopping $93,000.

Clark spent the sum on such necessities as her cable bill, tolls on the highway and—perhaps most notably—a Brazilian butt lift.

Clark racked up the staggering tally of expenses through use of her own city-issued card 136 times (accounting for approximately $61,000 of the charges) and use of her bosses’ cards for the rest over the period from November of 2015 to March of 2017, when she was finally fired.

It was a bold scheme to be sure, and Clark was presumably emboldened as she went. The financial abuse was only able to go as far as it did because negligent department heads reportedly failed to review their expense reports for more than a year.

Ultimately, Clark’s actions were only discovered when her charges put her department over budget, bringing scrutiny.

Among Clark’s applications of city funds: her cable TV bill, food, $41,000 transferred to her personal PayPal account, a $123 “Edible Arrangements” bouquet sent to herself at the office (under the pretense of having been sent by a doting gentleman caller) and—of course—the $8,500 Brazilian butt lift, a procedure involving the transplantation of fat deposits from other sites in the body to the rump.

All in all, not a bad haul for someone ostensibly making $33,500 a year.

After her firing, Clark was charged with larceny and scheme to defraud and—amazingly—remained bold enough still to actually plead “not guilty.”

As it happens, this isn’t Clark’s first rodeo when it comes to egregious abuse of professional trust. She was arrested in another Florida county for using a prior Human Resources job to swipe the banking info of her fellow employees and sell it to a third party.

Clark was charged with no less than seven felonies for her HR misconduct, but she pleaded no contest and got probation, after which all charges were dismissed and she was free to abuse systems all over again.

On the plus side, at least when the city threw Clark out on her butt, she had something soft to land on!
