PALM BEACH — When shock jock Howard Stern unexpectedly went off the air Wednesday, it sent the internet into a flurry of speculation: is he sick, is he dying, are his parents dead?
The Palm Beach SiriusXM host took to the airwaves this morning to say he was sick with the fever and the flu and people needed to pull themselves together.
“Why was it such a big deal that I took a f**king day off,” he asked. “I wanted to take off today because my voice is still shot, but I was afraid to. I felt so f**king guilty. I missed a day of work and all of a sudden it’s bigger news than James Comey.”
Much of the internet chatter talked about him taking a personal day, something that Stern denied saying. “I never said ‘personal day.’ I didn’t take a personal day, I took a sick day and I’m still sick, you can hear it in my voice.”
Stern was apparently unmoved by the thousands of fans who were worried for his and his parents’ health.
“These a**holes started calling my mother’s house, what am I, 5? If I miss a day of work, you don’t call my mother, you call my wife. I’m married. They’re calling my mother to see why I’m missing school.”
In fact his wife Beth, with whom the 63-year-old lives in his $52 million Palm Beach estate, said on Friday: “Everything is great. He’s coming back on Monday. He had to take a personal day, that’s all.”
Hmmmm, a personal day? Maybe if she’s said sick day, everyone would’ve gone back to thinking about Comey’s firing!
