BOCA RATON — Rick Allen is not only the one-armed drummer from Def Leppard, who’s considered one of the top ten drummers of all time, he’s also an artist, creating and selling work to raise money for charity.
Now that’s inspiring!
Allen held two shows at the Wentworth Gallery this weekend, one in Fort Lauderdale and then one in Boca Raton.
Hundreds turned out to see, and buy his work.
Allen, who lost his arm in a Corvette crash more than 30 years ago, said he was inspired to start painting by his six-year-old daughter.
His works were priced from a couple hundred dollars for small pieces, to nearly $8,000 for painted drums.
A portion of the sales are donated to Project Resiliency’s Warrior Resiliency Program, which is sponsored by Allen’s Raven Drum Foundation. The charity helps vets with PTSD by connecting them with non-traditional treatment.
Allen said he loves helping the vets, but the work he’s doing has really helped him because he suffered from PTSD after his crash.
It was clear Allen had a personal connection with the work, and with his fans. He took time to talk to everyone and signed all the pieces he sold.
