SCREW UP, GET PAID: Outgoing VISIT FLORIDA CHIEF Cashes In!

Why did Will Seccombe get a $73,000 severance package after being asked to resign? (via skift.com)

MIAMI — The outgoing head of Visit Florida, Will Seccombe, who resigned under pressure from Gov. Rick Scott after paying rapper Pitbull $1 million in a controversial deal, is getting a pretty nice $73,000 severance package.

That’s right. Screw up in Florida and waste taxpayer dollars and end up with $73,000! That’ll teach ’em!

Seccombe, who’s headed up the public-private agency since 2012, could’ve received as much as $327,000 in severance, according to his contract.

But the man who decided to give Mr. 305 a cool $1 million to repurpose his song Sexy Beaches  agreed to accept only $73,000.

Not too bad for someone who made $320,000 in salary and benefits in 2014, and who the governor, himself, asked to take a hike.

— See Gov. Rick Scott singing a different tune and loving on Pitbull when he gave him a key to the city in 2014

The board chair William Talbert III said the $73,000 isn’t taxpayer money. However, in a public-private organization like Visit Florida, it’s like pretending the right hand doesn’t know what the left is doing!

The board of Visit Florida did announce a new hire today, Kenneth Lawson, the current director for the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Lawson’s not a marketing guy. He’s an experienced trial attorney who once headed a State Department funded Indonesian financial crime project.

He’s an overseer, and a rules guy who will be making much less than Seccombe. He’s accepted a salary of $175,000.

We’ll be curious to see if Visit Florida even exists three years from now.
