PALM BEACH — Prominent Palm Beacher Ron Lauder, who’s not only the president of the World Jewish Congress, but also the heir to the Estee Lauder beauty empire, has told investigators that he gave gifts to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to an Israeli newspaper.
Lauder was questioned as part of a corruption probe looking into Netanyahu, who’s having a rough winter with the UN vote on Israeli settlements and now this!
Lauder told police that he gave Netanyahu a number of gifts, including a suit and paid for Netanyahu’s son Yair trip overseas.
According to Haaretz, police sources say billionaire Lauder is underplaying how valuable the gifts were and that they were given to curry favor, not as a sign of friendship.
However, Lauder’s people deny everything and Lauder’s lawyer Helena Beilin said Haaretz’s report is “totally false.”
She said police questioned Lauder once, but haven’t contacted Lauder since Oct. 1 and: “Mr. Lauder never made these purchases nor did he admit to them, and any report that states otherwise is completely inaccurate,” she told the New York Post.
