Scores of local charities applied to participate in the innovative fundraiser and this weekend, a drawing was held to see which groups would be chosen to participate in the challenge held during the upcoming Winter Equestrian Festival.
Children’s Home Society of Florida, Horses Healing Hearts, Junior League of Boca Raton, Unicorn Children’s Foundation and Florence Fuller Child Development Centers were among the dozens of lucky winners.
The each chosen charity will be randomly paired with a riding team composed of two junior riders and one Olympic or world-class rider.
The teams compete during the fourth week of the Winter Equestrian Festival in February.
The winning team of riders will receive $150,000 for their charity.
Over the last seven years, the Great Charity Challenge has handed more than $9 million to Palm Beach County charities.
