TEQUESTA — A 19-year-old man has been arrested for stabbing a husband and wife couple to death and allegedly biting off pieces of one of the victim’s face, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
A neighbor who tried to intervene was also seriously injured in the attack after sustaining “substantial trauma,” according to Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.
The sheriff said deputies were called out to a house on Southeast Kokomo Lane in Tequesta late Monday night.
When law enforcement arrived they found a couple dead and Austin Harrouff, who initially identified himself as Austin Michael Moore, atop one of the victims in the driveway, biting off pieces of his face.
The man’s wife was found dead in the garage.
A motive for the killings wasn’t immediately apparent though Snyder said the attacker may have been on some kind of drug like flakka.
Harrouff was arrested and taken to a St. Mary’s Medical Center for the injuries he received during the attack.
It was just last year that an HIV-infected man was accused of biting off a large chunk of flesh from a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy’s arm.
And then who could forget the spring of 2012, when a a Miami man, Rudy Eugene, partially chewed off the face of a homeless man named Ronald Poppo, sparking a national debate on the existence of zombies.
