BOCA RATON — The first scenes of the Baywatch movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron were filmed in Boca Raton today and over the weekend, and several clues about the direction of the flick already emerged.
It seem the writers of the project, scheduled to be released in May 2017, are using South Florida as the setting instead of the series’ main locations in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Hawaii.
How do we know?
Big-screen stars Johnson (Race to Witch Mountain, San Andreas) and Efron (17 Again, Neighbors)were spotted on a boat used for the movie with Broward County on the bow in addition to the classic Baywatch markings.
And The Rock, clad in red, seems to have inherited the role of David Hasselhof‘s Mitch Buchannon, the lieutenant of the lifeguards.
Meawhile, crews spent most of the today filming in and out of South Inlet Park on Boca Raton’s south side as well as the nearby jetty and Spanish River Park, another stretch of the beach owned by the city of Boca Raton.

Over the weekend, a scene involved the rescue of a kit jumper in distress (above and below).
Directed by Seth Gordon, who made Horrible Bosses, Baywatch is also set to star Alexandra Daddario, a blue-eyed hottie who played The Rock’s daughter in the earthquake movie San Andreas.
Originally aired by NBC, the series went from 1989 to 2001. With its reliance on bikini shots and beefcake, the series helped a slew of actors become household names.
Those included Hasselhof, Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, David Chokachi, David Charvet and Nicole Eggert.
