CLEARWATER — A 23-year-old man decapitated his mother on New Year’s Eve after she asked him to move boxes into the attic of their house near Clearwater!
A Pinellas County Sheriff’s spokesman said the grizzly discovery of the 48-year-old woman with her severed head outside her home in Oldsmar led to the arrest of Christian Gomez, 23,
He allegedly killed Maria Suarez Cassagne in the garage by repeatedly hitting her with a small ax until he severed her head!
Gomez’ brother was inside the house and reported hearing “thumping” but didn’t make anything of it at first.
The suspect then carried his mother’s head out of the garage and into a trash can outside the house. He dragged her body outside but was unable to hoist it into the trash can, according to the sheriff’s deputy report.
Gomez then left the house on his bicycle.
He was charged of first-degree murder and ordered held without bail. His mugshot, above, became an instant classic.
Gomez has a history of mental problems, including schizophrenia, and was arrested by local authorities at least 30 times over the past few years for minor crimes, including loitering.
Court records show that, in 2013, Gomez was Baker Acted after waving a skateboard at a passer-by while talking non-sense.
Sheriff’s deputies said Gomez was taking medication and currently was under mental health care.
Cassagne lived with her two other kids at 1924 Sheffield Court: Mario, 27, and a 16-year-old daughter.
Mario eventually discovered his mother’s body and called 911. His sister was not at home.
Deputies found Christian Gomez biking in a nearby neighborhood.
His socks were splattered with blood.
In late November, another mentally unstable man in Fort Walton Beach killed his mother by shooting an arrow into her head at home over his claims that she stole his diamonds.
