FORT LAUDERDALE — Guess you can call it a bad trip!
Former Miami Dolphins receiver Davone Bess appeared to be under the influence of drugs about 6 a.m. today when he was arrested at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, according to a Broward County Sheriff‘s report.
This is what authorities are saying:
A deputy working the airport detail was notified by passengers that a man was acting irrationally.
The man, identified as the 28-year-old baller, was dancing and singing loudly — and his pants kept falling down.
The deputy asked Bess if he was OK but wasn’t able to get a response.
Said the deputy: “He appeared to be looking through me!”
Bess then grabbed a cup of coffee that was near him and, instead of putting it down as the deputy requested, squeezed the cup until it broke. Coffee splattered on the deputy.
In time, Bess appeared to ready himself to fight the deputy, who then hit Bess in the legs with his baton.
The blow had no effect and Bess ignored orders to lay on the ground but there was no further violence.
He was charged with resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct.
