flag-breaking-newsHollywood legend Burt Reynolds is being treated in a West Palm Beach area hospital for dehydration caused by the worsening of his flu symptoms, according to several reports.

The star of Boogie Nights, Smokey and the Bandit and The Longest Yard, 76, who has suffered through several health emergencies over the past few years, is expected out of ICU tomorrow and out of the hospital next week.

He was admitted under a pseudonym to keep members of the press away.

“He is doing better,” Erik Kritzer, Reynolds’ publicist, told CNN.

Reynolds lives in Tequesta and was scheduled to do a series of one-man shows in Lake Worth and Stuart over the next couple of weeks. The performances were postponed to March.

“I saw him Tuesday night at a show we were doing,” said Palm Beach Realtor Doug Rill, chairman of the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre, an acting school and theater in Lake Park. “He looked great. He gave me a big hug and went on his way.”

Said Donna Carbone, the BRIFT manager: “He does have the flu, but this was just a precautionary measure.”

In 2009, Reynolds checked himself into rehab in West Palm Beach after falling down at home and injuring himself. He admitted to being addicted to pain killers.

Just months later, he underwent heart bypass surgery.

Reynolds is also fighting foreclosure on his waterfront homestead just north of Jupiter. Martin County records show he stopped making payments on his mortgage in August 2010 and owes $1.2 million. The house is on the market for $5 million.
