WPEC-Channel 12‘s newscast director just celebrated his first month in the Palm Beach County lockup — but station officials are not saying whether the guy’s still on the payroll or whether he’s been canned.
Oh, yes: The West Palm Beach/Treasure Coast market’s third-ranked station has yet to cover the arrest of one of their own who now faces between 10 years and life in prison for trying to hook up with a 15-year-old boy.
Christopher Siegert, who oversaw the CBS affiliate’s newscasts, was nabbed by Homeland Security Dec. 20 on a federal charge of enticement.
The 29-year-old, who lives in Jupiter, is alleged to have traveled to Boynton Beach to meet the boy for oral sex and sessions with sex toys. Instead, he was met by local cops, who arrested him.
Siegert supposedly hooked up with the federal agent posing as a teenager on the gay cruising app Grindr.
Channel 12 news director Cathy Younkin did not reply to emails asking her why the station has yet to cover the incident, and whether Siegert is still her employee.
An insider who asked to remain nameless, meanwhile, described Siegert as “a big affable bear of a guy.”
The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Siegert started four years ago as a video editor and cameraman, and worked his way up to be a technical director of newscasts.
“He was always laughing and chuckling, and could get easily frustrated when something didn’t work right,” the CBS 12 source said, “but no one would have suspected anything felonious.”
Siegert is the second local TV personality picked up for alleged pedophile tendencies over the past six months.
In July, former WPTV-Channel 5 weatherman Rob Lopicola was nabbed for sex with two underage boys. He, too, is still at the Gun Club Road jail as his case crawls through the system.
By they way, CBS 12 reported that arrest extensively!
