Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson reunited with ex-wife Evelyn Lozada in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom today, but just for a few minutes.
The former lovebirds, who broke up in August after Johnson head-butted her during an argument over condoms at home in Davie, were due before Judge Ian Richards for a hearing about the restraining order that Basketball Wives reality TV star Lozada had against Johnson.
Hizzoner asked Lozada if she’s still afraid of the out-of-work NFLer, she responded “No!”
In the end, the restraining order that forced Johnson to leave a room if his ex entered was lifted. The two are free to rekindle, although there’s no indication that’s going to happen.
Johnson’s lawyer said Lozada initiated the 10-minute hearing.
“Chad was approached a few days ago by prosecutors about the restraining order,” said Adam Swickle, Johnson’s attorney. “They asked him if he was interested in being able to have contacts with Evelyn and he said he would. Chad did not initiate this at all.”
The incident possibly cost Johnson millions in endorsements, his job with the Dolphins and the couple’s quickie divorce.
Johnson, who once was known as Ochocinco, pleaded no contest to domestic battery in September and is on one year probation and undergoing counseling.
Swickle said Johnson is abiding with his probation, and plans on asking Judge Richards to end the probation period early.
“He’s doing very well,” Swickle said.
