Ex-Nickelodeon teen heartthrob Matthew Underwood says there’s a good reason why one of his probation-mandated drug tests came back positive, landing him in a St. Lucie County jail.

Several patrons of Underwood’s Port St. Lucie hookah lounge, Cloud 9, were caught smoking pot as of late.

And even if Underwood, who starred alongside Victoria Justice in Nick’s teen sitcom Zoey 101, says he kicks law breakers out as soon as he notices — he may have inhaled some!

Underwood told his lawyer Friday that is what he believes caused his urine test to show he’s toking again!

“Matt maintains he has not been doing any drugs during his probation,” said Chris Lewis, Underwood’s attorney. “But there have been incidents of marijuana smoking at his lounge, so there could be second-hand smoke.”

Lewis, however, says he has not been notified officially of the reason authorities decided to violate the 22-year-old, although Lewis assumes it is for a dirty drug test.

Underwood, who’s been living in Port St. Lucie on and off for years, was nabbed by cops outside his hookah shop early Nov. 7. He was charged with violation of probation and ordered held with no bond.

Underwood’s probation stems from an arrest in April during a SWAT raid his house. While cops expected to find beaucoup marijuana, they found residue and ashes of the drug. They also found his 17-year-old girlfriend.

Underwood was charged with possession of controlled substance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He pleaded no-contest in July and was ordered to one year probation, a $455-fine and random drug tests.

Now, Underwood could be stuck in the county lockup until at least Nov. 20, date of his hearing with a judge. He could conceivably spend Thanksgiving behind bars.

“Matt is frustated about being in jail,” Lewis said. “But he is dealing with it and trying to keep his spirit up. He understands the reality of it all. He’s just uncertain of what to do at this point.”

In an exclusive interview with Gossip Extra in April, Underwood said he believed his legal trouble came from his opening a hookah lounge, the first in the city.
