It’s going to be an expensive fall for out-of-work Broward football star Plaxico Burress: He just received a $1,000 traffic ticket, and he has to come up with $100,000 in back federal income taxes!

The 35-year-old receiver, who was released by the New York Jets earlier this year, is facing a serious traffic charge after he was clocked by Broward County Sheriff‘s deputies at 50 mph over the 55 mph speed limit in his Ferrari, according to Broward County court records.

If convicted, Burress will have to pay a $1,000, one of the highest traffic fines in Florida.

Regardless: Burress got lucky because deputies could’ve arrested him, and sent him to jail for months! Burress is on supervised release after a conviction on a gun-related charge in New York State.

“He was not arrested or anything,” said Brad Cohen, Burress’ Fort Lauderdale lawyer. “It was filed as a traffic violation, which won’t be a problem when it comes to his supervised release. It’s just a ticket.”

The former New York Giants Super Bowl hero was let go from a New York State prison a year ago. He served nearly two years on a career-breaking gun conviction. He remains on supervised release until mid-2013.

Meanwhile, the feds are going after Burress for a bunch of taxes he supposedly owes for 2007 and 2009, the year he was sentenced in the gun incident.

In all, according to a lien placed on Burress’ $2 million-Lighthouse Point home, Burress failed to pay $98,064.76 in income taxes.
