The big stories this a.m. in South Florida:

— After two years of investigations, legal entanglements and debate about justice for the rich, opening arguments in the trial of Wellington polo mogul John Goodman are scheduled for this morning. Goodman, 48, the founder of International Polo Club Palm Beach, is accused of killing 23-year-old Scott Wilson in a February 2010 crash. Authorities said Goodman was drunk while Roy Black, Goodman’s legal eagle, may claim the cause was a “sudden acceleration” in Goodman’s $280,000-Bentley convertible!

Miami Dolphins officials met with free agent quarterback Peyton Manning Monday. Head coach Joe Philbin talked game strategy with Manning, but the media chatter today is about where the meeting took place and who wasn’t there. Manning has a condo in Miami Beach but had the Fins schlepp all the way to Indy. Add the fact that Fins owner Stephen Ross wasn’t in yesterday’s talks, and the writing on the wall is pretty clear: Manning probably ain’t coming to Miami! — Finally, a bit of good news for the real estate market — if you’re into private islands. The private island business is on the rebound in the Florida Keys with no fewer than eight private islands for sale! Prices range from $995,000 to $18 million, and sizes can be as tiny as .25 acres. One off Marathon is listed for $12 million even though it’s appraised by the Monroe County Property Appraiser’s office for $1 million. And the three-bedroom house on the rock is described as “rustic.” (Click here for the rest of the story in the Miami Herald)
