A rumor spread like wildfire in the Wellington real estate biz over the weekend that music superstar Lady Gaga is looking for property in the equestrian village.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates, of all people, paid $600,000 for a winter rental in Wellington’s horse country, and his peeps are quietly looking for a permanent place. Rocker Bruce Springsteen has had a place in the village for six years. Men in Black‘s Tommy Lee Jones is another prominent Welly resident, as is former Good Morning America star Joan Lunden. And Madonna once took polo lessons and briefly looked for a pad but picked Long Island instead.
But Lady Gaga?
The rumor started when Palm Beach Polo realtor Tom Baldwin called the restaurant at the International Polo Club Palm Beach to make a tough-to-get reservation for lunch Saturday. I hear he told IPC folks that he was bringing Gaga and her management team, supposedly in town to look for real estate.

And just like that, IPC was abuzz — and every realtor worth his three-percent was making calls.
In the end, Baldwin had lunch at the Mallet Grille all right, but with his sister, interior designer Whitney Baldwin, and unidentified guests.
Lady Gaga? She must have been eaten by the fame monster: She was nowhere in sight!
Tom Baldwin, meanwhile, is keeping a poker face.
“I can’t comment,” he said when asked if he was really with Gaga, or whether he just wanted to secure a reservation during the crowded lunch hour.
Gut feeling?
Don’t hold your collective breaths: While she may be a fan of riding crops, I just can’t picture Gaga on a horse.
