Palm Beach County Boss Bob Weisman: “Screw Forbes!”

Palm Beach County Administrator Bob Weisman has a clear message for those at Forbes who picked West Palm Beach as America’s fourth most miserable city: Screw you!

And he put that in writing, in an email to administration officials like County Attorney Denise Neiman and Assistant County Administrator Brad Merriman, and area leaders like Economic Council of Palm Beach County Prez Mike Jones and Lantana Town Manager Mike Bornstein, among others.

In the missive obtained by Gossip Extra, Weisman deems “crap” the Forbes‘ survey that placed West Palm Beach fourth to Miami, Detroit and Flint, Mich., on the “miserable” scale.

The magazine and its website picked on West Palm Beach because of its reputation for public corruption as well as tanking real estate. The picture what accompanies the small article shows what could be a long line of folks hoping to apply for a job.

Weisman also takes on the recipients of his email, telling them to quit whining and accusing “some of them” of spreading the “corruption county” label bestowed on Palm Beach County.

“Elected officials will continue to be arrested here and all over the Country, no matter what your ethics initiatives are, because elected officials are human, just like everyone else (How about teachers, lawyers, priests, businessmen, and city and county managers),” Weisman wrote.

He then takes on The Palm Beach Post and WPTV-Channel 5: “If I got pissed off at every wrong/misleading thing that the Post and lately Channel 5 write and talk about, I would be really unhappy.  I set a higher standard for my quality judgments.”

Alrighty, then!

Finally, Weisman suggests that whoever thinks less of the area because of Forbes shows “bad judgment.”

“I feel good,” Weisman wrote in his ending. “And just writing this made me feel even better.”

Weisman this morning said he was calm and composed when he wrote the email. He said it was emailed during discussions on whether the county should officially react to Forbes’ slap.

“People are concerned about things that appear in the press and I was telling them they shouldn’t be,” Weisman said today. “Those lists (in Forbes) are ridiculous. Read the email as an impassioned defense of the county. Let’s keep things in perspective: Miami-Dade is corruption county, not Palm Beach.”

Here’s Weisman’s email, raw and uncut:

Subject: Screw Forbes

Come on guys.  Do you know how whining y’all sound. The Forbes survey is crap if they consider the Mayor’s arrest as devaluing the area.  Elected officials will continue to be arrested here and all over the Country, no matter what your ethics initiatives are, because elected officials are human, just like everyone else (How about teachers, lawyers, priests, businessmen, and city and county managers). It has nothing to do with liveability. If I got pissed off at every wrong/misleading thing that the Post and lately Channel 5 write and talk about, I would be really unhappy.  I set a higher standard for my quality judgments.  Screw Forbes. If someone makes a decision to not come to or think less of Palm Beach County because of that story, that’s bad judgment on their part.  Some of you helped spread that “corruption county” label.  It wasn’t true then, and it’s not true now.  Were you thinking of bad publicity then?  Screw Forbes.  Have a nice day.  I feel good and just writing this made me feel even better.
