WTVJ-NBC 6 and two of its reporters, Willard Shepard and Todd Wright, are being sued for libel by the owners of a Broward discount plastic-surgery clinic where three patients die since 2008.
The lawsuit, brought by Strax Rejuvenation, alleges that the station sensationalized its coverage of lipo patient Lidvian Zelaya’s death.
NBC 6 falsely reported that the doctor who sucked fat from Zelaya’s waist re-injected too much of it into her body, causing her lung to flood. A correction ran online five days later.
Not good enough for Peter Mineo, Strax’s attorney. “Strax has had it with inaccurate reporting,†he said.
NBC 6 issued this statement: “These allegations are completely baseless and we will defend ourselves vigorously.”
